Autumn Steam Sale Update – November 25th

There are some shiny new deals up on the Steam store at the moment as we come ever closer to the end of the autumn sales.

Mark of the Ninja

Matt loved this game and reviewed it on Hooked Gamers here. If you can’t be bothered reading the whole article, “Mark of the Ninja is a 2D side scrolling stealth action game with some platforming elements thrown in for good measure.” It also has a big focus on stealth, silent kills, ninja gadgets, light and sound. I picked it up myself yesterday and though I’ve only played it for an hour or so, I can already tell I’m in for something special.

It’s 50% off today, so pick it up and get stabbing!

Deus Ex: Human Revolution

This a solid attempt at re-invigorating the classic Deus Ex franchise that gives the player a large number of ways to approach its multi-layered levels. It is set in a cyber-punk future teetering on the edge of a trans-humanist revolution. The player taking control of Adam Jensen, a man injured in an attack who is reconstructed Robo Cop (or Inspector Gadget) style and sent off to solve a grand conspiracy spreading across the globe.

If you fancy a preview of some of the moral, social and philosophical issues that we’re going to have to deal with in the next century or two combined with fun, varied game-play then look no further. It’s  75% off today, which makes it an absolute steal for a game of this depth, complexity and quality.

Borderlands 2

This takes everything good about the original shoot-and-loot co-op first person shooter and improves on it. This means more guns (and there were a ton already), more enemy types and more off-the-wall humour. There’s even a new class, the Gunzerker, specially designed to help players who are new to shooters deal a lot of damage via the magic of dual-wielding.

Get a group of four playing this online and you’re in for a great time, and it even has two player split-screen co-op, which is a rareity in todays online dominated multiplayer world.  Even better, it’s 50% off on Steam today.

Metro 2033

This is a rough diamond set in a post-apocalyptic world where, you guessed it, survivers live in the metro system of a Moscow inhabited by mutants and humans who all want to kill you. It’s very much like a more linear Stalker with an interesting plot and heapings of atmosphere. If you can get past the antiquated stealth system then there is real fun to be had with this game.

This game is in a flash deal, so it’s 75% off for the next 10 hours only (10pm GMT) so if you fancy a distinctly Russian bit of shooter-stealth fun, pick it up quick.

Max Payne 3

Max Payne 3 is a third-person shooter that focuses heavily on slow-motion bullet time action and a story of corruption, greed and betrayal. Max Payne 3 keeps the original two games’ gritty feel but swaps the film Noire New York for the sunny city of São Paulo. The game occasionally has flashbacks to Max’s time in New York, keeping die-hard fans happy while doing something new with the series. This is, in my opinion, the pinnacle of the third person shooter, and one not to be missed out on.

If you’ve ever fancied flying through the air in slow-motion shooting multiple people in the face in slow-motion then you should probably seek psychological help. If you’ve ever fancied doing all that in a video-game, then Max Payne 3 is for you. Rockstar have created a beautiful blend of cover-shooter and all out action game that uses the Euphoria animation engine found in GTA:IV to spectacular effect. The gunplay is also likely similar to what we’re going to get in GTA V, which is great news for the franchise. It’s 50% off until the 27th of November.

That’s all for today folks – try not to spend a ridiculous amount of money on a ton of games you’re never going to play – buy these games instead!

  1. Both Payne and Jensen have great information that can help us work with those in potrvey. I feel Payne’s information provides an understanding, while Jensen’s information offers ideas that can be implemented in schools. I have taken away something from each author.
